Where to Buy Telegram Gifts: Marketplace Comparison

There are three places to get a Telegram gift, and they're not competitors so much as different stages of the same pipeline: Telegram's own in-app marketplace, the TON NFT marketplaces where exported gifts end up, and mini-app games where gifts drop as rewards. Each has a different price structure, a different risk profile, and a different set of things that can go wrong. This is the comparison.

1. The three venues at a glance

Note the row that matters most: on all three, you're transacting with a system, not a stranger. Every scam in this space happens outsidethese venues, in DMs. More on that below.

2. Telegram's built-in marketplace

Telegram launched its gift marketplace in May 2025. It's the default answer for most people: it's inside the app you're already using, it's denominated in Stars, and it needs no crypto knowledge whatsoever.

What you can do

• Browse thousands of collectible gifts listed by other users.
• Filter by model, backdrop, and symbol — the three attributes that drive a collectible's value.
• Use the "Resale" filter to see only upgraded collectibles for sale.
• Buy instantly with your Stars balance.

What it costs

You pay the seller's asking price in Stars. Telegram takes a commission out of the seller's proceeds rather than adding a buyer fee, so the number you see is the number you pay. There's also a platform-set minimum resale price, so you won't find collectibles listed for trivial amounts.

The catch

You're paying in Stars, which you bought with money you can't get back. If the gift later appreciates, realising that gain means exporting it to TON and selling there — a separate process with its own fees. Buying in-app is convenient; it isn't the cheapest route to a liquid asset.

3. TON NFT marketplaces

Once a collectible gift is exported to the TON blockchain it becomes an ordinary NFT and trades on TON NFT marketplaces — Getgems and Fragment being the best known. These are the venues where sold-out collections continue to change hands long after the in-app supply dries up.

Why buy here

• Access to closed collections. If a collection sold out — and Telegram has noted that some sold out in minutes — the secondary market is the only way in.
• Real price discovery. Sale history is on-chain and public. You can see what things actually sold for, not just what sellers are asking.
• You end up holding a real asset. It's in your wallet, and it's sellable for crypto that converts to money.

What it costs

The listing price in TON, plus marketplace fees, plus network gas. Gas on TON is small, but on a cheap item the combined overhead is proportionally large.

The catch

4. Mini-app games

The third route isn't a marketplace at all. Mini-app games award gifts as gameplay rewards — from boxes, streaks, leaderboards, and seasonal events. You're not selecting an item; you're buying a chance at one, or earning it free.

Why it's different

Everywhere else, you pay a known price for a known item. Here you pay a known price for a random item, and the expected value is set by drop rates rather than by a market. That's a worse deal if your goal is one specific collectible, and a better one if your goal is volume, variety, or entertainment.

Where it genuinely wins

• The free tier is real. Daily claims, streaks and mini-game rewards mean you can acquire gifts at zero cost, which no marketplace can match.
• Cheap entry. Low-tier boxes cost a fraction of a marketplace listing.
• You're playing a game. The entertainment is part of what you're paying for.

5. Where Fragment fits

Fragment is worth calling out separately because it plays two roles and people conflate them. It's a Telegram-affiliated platform that both hosts auctions and trading for Telegram-native digital items, and — per Telegram's own documentation — serves as an alternative payment route for buying Stars in larger quantities than the in-app flow allows.

6. Which one should you use?

• You want one specific collectible and don't do crypto → Telegram's in-app marketplace.
• You want something from a sold-out collection → a TON marketplace.
• You want a gift as an asset you can eventually cash out → buy on TON, hold in your own wallet.
• You want gifts without spending money → mini-app games.
• You want the cheapest possible entry to collecting → mini-app games for volume, then the marketplace once you know which attributes you actually want.

7. Buying safely

The venues themselves are safe — Telegram escrows in-app sales, and TON marketplaces execute through smart contracts. Essentially all fraud in this market happens in private messages, where someone offers a deal that conveniently bypasses both.

• Never send Stars or TON directly to another user for a gift. There's no escrow in a DM. Use the marketplace's buy button.
• Never enter your Telegram login or 2FA password on any website. No legitimate marketplace asks for it.
• Verify the collection, not just the picture. Anyone can mint an NFT with the same artwork. On TON marketplaces, check the collection address matches the official one.
• Be sceptical of below-floor prices. A rare collectible listed far under comparable items is the oldest bait in the book.

8. FAQ

Can I buy gifts with real money directly?

Not on the in-app marketplace — that's Stars only, so money buys Stars first. On TON marketplaces you pay in TON, which you buy with money on an exchange. Either way there's a currency in between.

Are prices better in-app or on TON?

Neither consistently. In-app pricing is in Stars and reflects the Stars economy; TON pricing reflects the crypto market. The same item can be cheaper in either venue depending on the week. If you're buying something valuable, check both.

Can I buy a standard (non-collectible) gift from someone?

No. Only collectible — upgraded — gifts can be listed and resold. Standard gifts can be sent, kept, or converted, but not traded.

What happens if I buy a gift and the seller cancels?

They can't. Once a marketplace purchase completes, ownership transfers automatically. There's no seller-confirmation step to be reneged on.

Do I need a TON wallet to buy in-app?

No. In-app purchases are Stars only. A wallet is only needed on TON.
