    How to roll dice online

    1. Pick how many dice to roll, from 1 to 6.
    2. Pick the sides: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 or d20.
    3. Press Roll the dice. The total appears under the dice.
    4. To keep a die for the next roll, tap it after a roll. Tap it again to release it.

    Is this dice roller fair?

Yes. Each roll comes from the secure random number generator built into your browser, the one it also uses for encryption (Web Crypto), not from a predictable formula. A random number that would make one face slightly more likely is thrown away and drawn again, so on a d6 every face comes up exactly 1 time in 6 in the long run. The roll happens on your device and is sent nowhere.

Fair does not mean even in the short run. Ten rolls of a d6 can easily show three 5s and no 2 at all. That is what real dice do too.

    Which dice for which game

    • d6: the classic die with pips, for most board games, Yahtzee, ludo and dice drinking games. Most games roll 1 or 2 of them.
    • d4, d8, d10 and d12: role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, for weapon damage and spells.
    • d20: the main die of Dungeons & Dragons, rolled for attacks and checks.

Two dice: why 7 comes up most

With 2 dice there are 36 equally likely pairs, and 6 of them add up to 7, more than any other total. A 2 or a 12 needs one exact pair each, so they turn up least. Our dice probability calculator works out the chance of any total for any dice.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I roll a dice online?

Pick the number of dice and the sides, then press Roll the dice. The dice tumble for a moment and the total appears underneath.

Can I roll more than one dice?

Yes, up to 6 at once. With two or more dice you can tap a die after a roll to hold it, and the next roll leaves it as it is.

Is an online dice roller really random?

This one uses your browser's secure random number generator (Web Crypto), and every face of a die is exactly as likely as the others. Short runs can still look streaky, as they do with real dice.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, with nothing to download and no account.
