How to play 2 player checkers on one screen

    1. The board is already set to Two players. Keep English / American rules or pick another set before the first move.
    2. The first player taps a piece, then a highlighted square. In English rules Dark moves first.
    3. Pass the screen. The line under the board always says whose move it is, and if a capture is due it says that too.
    4. Keep taking turns. A player with no legal move loses. Press New game to play again.

What the board does for you

    • It only offers legal moves. Only pieces that can move are selectable, so nobody has to argue about a rule mid-game.
    • It enforces captures. If a jump is available, the board makes you take it, and a multi-jump is played one jump at a time.
    • It stays still. The board does not flip between turns. On a phone, lay it flat between you; on a laptop, swap seats or share the trackpad.
    • It crowns kings for you and keeps count of the pieces each side has left.

Which rules should two players pick?

Start with English / American if you grew up with checkers or draughts in the US or UK: men capture only forward and kings step one square, so games stay simple. Shashki, Brazilian and International give kings the whole diagonal and let men capture backward, which makes for sharper games between players who know each other's habits. Turkish draughts is the odd one out, played straight along rows and columns, and it makes a good surprise for a friend who thinks they know the game. Our checkers rules guide compares all seven.

    How a game ends

A player with no legal move loses, whether every piece is captured or every piece is blocked. The game is a draw when neither side has captured or advanced a man for 25 moves each, so a friendly game always finishes.

2 player checkers online, on two phones

This page needs you both at one screen. To play a friend who is somewhere else, Gift Club in Telegram has Checkers: send a challenge link in any chat and play on your own phones with a clock on every move. It uses shashki rules, for Stars or as a Spark round.

Nobody around? The same board plays against the computer on the main checkers page, on Easy or Hard.

    Frequently asked questions

Can two people play checkers on one device?

Yes. This board opens on Two players. Take turns on the same screen: the status line says whose move it is, and the board stays as it is, so pass it back and forth.

Can I play 2 player checkers with a friend on another phone?

Not on this page: it is for two people at one screen. To play on two phones, use Checkers in Gift Club on Telegram, which starts when your friend opens your challenge link.

Is it free, and do we need accounts?

It is free. There is nothing to download and no account, for either player. It runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer.

Who goes first in 2 player checkers?

The side the rule set says: Dark in English / American rules, Light in the other six. The player at the bottom of the board moves first, so decide between you who takes that seat.

Can we play against the computer instead?

Yes. Tap Computer under Players before the first move, then choose Easy or Hard.

Play within your limits. Paid rounds cost Telegram Stars or Gram, and every game on Gift Club is built so the house keeps a margin — over enough rounds the maths runs against you, by design.
