Telegram Stars are an in-app currency Telegram launched on 6 June 2024 to power digital transactions inside the platform. Telegram describes them as the currency for "in-app purchases of digital goods and services."

How do Telegram Stars work?

Every Telegram account has a Stars balance, viewable in Settings → My Stars. The balance is server-side, tied to your Telegram user ID, and synced across all devices where you're logged in. There's no Stars "wallet" to install, no seed phrase to back up, and no on-chain transaction signing.

When you spend Stars, the transaction is processed by Telegram's payments backend. Bots and mini-apps that accept Stars use Telegram's Payments API — they never touch your balance directly; instead they request a payment, you approve it, and Telegram debits the Stars and credits the recipient's developer account.

Two important consequences flow from this design:

• Purchases are final, with one exception. Telegram's terms say sales of Stars are final. A bot or mini-app that fails to deliver what you paid for can refund the Stars, because Telegram keeps the ledger. A crypto transfer can't be reversed at all.
• Stars require a Telegram account. Lose access to your account, and you lose access to your Stars. There is no recovery via private key.

Set expectations from the actual reward schedule rather than a headline: where a claim cycle pays a Star or two at a time, a disciplined month lands in the low hundreds of Stars, not the thousands.

What can you spend Stars on?

The Stars economy has expanded fast. Major spend categories in 2026:

• Digital gifts. Send Stars-purchased gifts to friends and contacts. Some gifts are upgradeable into limited NFT collectibles claimable to your TON wallet.

The two ecosystems do touch: certain Stars-purchased gifts can be upgraded into NFT collectibles that live on the TON blockchain and can be transferred to a TON wallet. Once on TON, those NFTs become real crypto assets — tradable, sellable, and outside Telegram's control.

What does a Telegram Star cost?

A Star costs about $0.020 in the US App Store and a flat $0.015 on Fragment, which is paid in Gram. The App Store price includes Apple's cut; Fragment routes around it. Pack size barely matters: in the US App Store the price per Star stays between $0.0199 and $0.0204 from 100 to 2,500 Stars. Prices in other countries differ with local store tiers and taxes.

Can you refund or transfer Telegram Stars?

Telegram's terms say all sales of Stars are final and that Telegram doesn't issue refunds. The exception is a purchase that wasn't delivered: a bot or mini-app that fails to deliver what you paid for can refund the Stars, so start with that bot's own support. Can you transfer Stars?

Not from your balance to someone else's. What you can do is buy Stars as a gift for a contact (Settings → My Stars) or top up their balance on Fragment, and send them Stars-priced gifts. A gift they don't want to keep can be converted back into some of its Stars.

Do Stars expire?

No. Stars sitting on your account don't expire. However, if your Telegram account is deleted (manually or due to long-term inactivity), the associated Stars are lost.

How are Stars used in Gift Club?

Gift Club is built around Stars from the ground up. There is no Stars grant just for signing up. The free claim every 4 hours pays Sparks and XP rather than Stars, and Sparks pay for XP rounds at 1 Spark a round. Stars in Gift Club do three things:

Be realistic about the free track: the claim cycle pays Sparks, which keep the Spark modes going but never turn into Stars. Boxes cost Stars, apart from one box and one scratch card priced in Sparks, so the free track keeps you playing between purchases; it is not a way to open boxes indefinitely for nothing.
