Telegram does not refund Stars purchases: its terms say all sales of Stars are final. A refund is possible only for something you paid for with Stars, and only from whoever you paid: a bot or Mini App that failed to deliver can refund the Stars to you. If the developer refuses a legitimate refund, Telegram lets you file a dispute.
Who can refund Telegram Stars?
As of 11 October 2026, per Telegram's terms and developer documentation:
| Situation | Who handles it | What the rules say |
|---|---|---|
| You bought Stars by mistake or changed your mind | Nobody at Telegram | Sales of Stars are final; unwanted or accidental purchases are not refunded |
| Stars bought through the App Store, Google Play or another processor | That payment provider | Your billing relationship is with the provider, so a problem with the charge goes to them |
| A bot or Mini App took Stars and did not deliver as advertised | The developer of that bot or Mini App | The developer can refund the Stars and is responsible for legitimate disputes |
| The developer refuses a legitimate refund | Telegram, through a dispute report | Use the transaction ID from your Stars screen and BotFather's Stars dispute link |
| Your account is deleted or you lose access | Nobody | The remaining Stars balance is forfeit |
Telegram's terms show no effective date, so the table is dated by when it was checked.
How do you ask a bot or Mini App for a refund?
- Find the payment. Open My Stars (Settings → My Stars) and tap the transaction. Note the transaction ID and the date.
- Contact the bot. Telegram requires every bot and Mini App that takes Stars to answer a payment-support command and to deal with payment problems in good time. Send the bot that command, or use the support link in its description, and give the transaction ID and what you did not receive.
- Give it time. Telegram states no deadline, so ask again after a few days and keep the conversation.
- If the developer refuses a legitimate refund, submit a dispute through BotFather's Stars dispute link with the transaction ID. Telegram describes this route but does not promise an outcome.

What if you were scammed with Stars?
A payment you made to a fake bot or a fake "unlock" offer is still a payment to that developer, so the same route applies in theory. In practice the developer is the scammer, so do not expect a refund. What helps is stopping it from happening again: never share your login code, leave the chat, and report the bot to Telegram. The tricks and how to spot them are in Telegram Stars Scams: Fake Generators and 8 Tricks to Spot.
Can you get a refund for a gift sent to the wrong person?
Telegram's Stars terms do not describe a refund for a gift, so none is promised here. What is documented is that a gift you receive and do not want can be converted back into some of its Stars, as described in the Stars guide. If you sent a gift to the wrong contact, ask that contact first.
Refunds and Gift Club
Gift Club is a Mini App, so a payment in it follows the same rule: the developer handles problems with what you paid for. If a Gift Club payment did not arrive, write to Gift Club support from the app's help screen with your transaction ID. Stars you spend on a box or a round are spent once the round starts, as in any paid Mini App.
FAQ
Can I get my Telegram Stars refunded?
Not from Telegram for the purchase itself: its terms say all sales of Stars are final. If you spent Stars in a bot or Mini App that did not deliver what it advertised, that developer can refund them.
How do I get a refund from a Telegram bot?
Find the transaction ID in My Stars, send the bot its payment-support command and say what you did not receive. If the developer refuses a legitimate refund, file a dispute through BotFather's Stars dispute link.
Is there a time limit on Stars refunds?
Telegram's terms and its developer documentation state none. Ask as soon as you notice the problem and keep the transaction ID.
What happens to my Stars if my account is deleted?
The remaining balance is forfeit, according to Telegram's Stars terms.
Who do I contact about a Stars charge on my card or Apple ID?
The payment provider that took the money, because your billing relationship for that purchase is with it.
