Diwali Games: Party Games for Home, Office and Far-Away Family

The best Diwali games are the ones the whole family can join in minutes: tambola with printed tickets, antakshari, a Diwali quiz, charades and a rangoli photo contest. For relatives in other cities, move the same games into a group chat or a video call, and play Ludo online. Diwali falls on 8 November in 2026, so send tickets and quiz questions a day ahead.

What are the best Diwali party games for a group at home?

1. Tambola (housie). Everyone gets a ticket and a caller reads out numbers. Print tickets or paste one per person into the chat with the tambola ticket generator and number caller. It needs no equipment beyond the tickets.
2. Antakshari. Two teams take turns singing a song that starts with the last letter or syllable of the previous one. Film songs make good rounds.
3. Charades. Teams act out words without speaking. Our charades generator deals the words and runs a 30, 60 or 90 second timer; add Diwali words of your own as a custom pack.
4. Diwali quiz. Ten questions on the festival, its foods and its stories, read aloud by one host. Keep a scoreboard on a phone.
5. Rangoli and diya contest. Everyone makes a design, and the family votes by pointing or by reacting to photos in the chat.

What games work for an office Diwali party?

Pick games where nobody has to perform alone: team charades, a quiz in small groups, and tambola with one ticket per person and small non-cash prizes such as sweets. Keep it to 45 to 60 minutes and finish before people need to leave.

How do you play Diwali games with family in other cities?

Use the group chat the family already has. A Telegram quiz poll reveals the answer after each vote, so nobody counts by hand; a photo contest works with reactions; and tambola works on a video call with the number caller shared on screen. More formats that run over text are in games to play over text.

For a board game, Ludo is the family favourite. In Gift Club you can send an invite link to the family group and whoever taps it first joins your board; choose Spark mode so nobody needs to stake Stars. Staked matches are paid games for adults. The steps are in Ludo with friends, and you can practise first against the computer in free online Ludo.

What about card games at Diwali?

Card games are a Diwali tradition in many homes, and they are often played for money. This page does not cover them. Whatever you play, keep it among adults who want to play and agree the rules first.
