Thanksgiving Games Online: Play Friendsgiving From Afar

The best Thanksgiving games for people in different places are the ones that need no equipment: a host-read trivia round, a thankful alphabet, guess-whose-dish photos, charades on camera, and a bingo played from one shared card list. Plan 90 minutes, pick two games, and send the cards or questions in a group chat before the call starts.

Key facts for Thanksgiving 2026

What are the best Thanksgiving games to play online?

Anything that works with every player on a different screen, with no props and no board. These hold up best:

• Host-read trivia. The most reliable remote game. The host reads questions about the holiday, the food and the group itself, answers go in the chat, and a second host or a spreadsheet keeps score. Questions about the people playing beat questions about turkeys every time.
• Thankful alphabet. Go round the call: each person names something they are thankful for that begins with the next letter, from A to Z. It needs nothing, takes ten minutes and gets people talking rather than waiting for their turn.
• Guess whose dish. Everyone sends a photo of their table or their plate to the host beforehand. The host shares the screen, one photo at a time, and the group guesses whose it is.
• Charades with cameras on. Holiday words (“pumpkin pie”, “carving the turkey”, “falling asleep after dinner”) work as well on video as in a room, and the format is funnier on a small screen.
• Two truths and a Thanksgiving. Two true things and one invented family tradition. Works better remotely because everyone can see every face at the same size.
• Deduction games. Werewolf and its relatives run fine over video with a host managing the night phase, and they are the only format here that produces real argument rather than turn-taking.

What does not work: anything timed and physical, anything needing the same board, and anything with more than three rules. A rules explanation over a video call loses half the room.

Can you play Friendsgiving bingo online?

Yes, and it is the easiest game to run from afar, because every player needs only their own card. Our bingo card generator makes different cards in a click. Its word cards use a list of at least 24 words, so type your own Thanksgiving list (turkey, gravy, “someone asks about my job”, “the game is on”), copy one card per player into the group chat, and read the calls aloud or share the caller on your screen. It is free and nothing you type is saved.

How do you do a gift swap from different places?

Draw names with a link and swap by post or by sending a small digital gift. Our Secret Santa generator draws names without anyone seeing the others' matches, and the white elephant rules cover the steal-it-from-a-friend version. If you are sending something to a friend on Telegram, a Telegram gift arrives in their chat the moment you send it.

How do you host Friendsgiving over a video call?

1. Pick one time and say it in the invitation with each person's time zone.
2. Send the card list, the trivia sheet or the names for the swap the day before.
3. Start with the easy game (the thankful alphabet), then play the main one.
4. Keep it to 90 minutes. People can stay on after the games without being asked.

What games work in a group chat instead of a call?

A chat game is something you send rather than a place you meet, so people can play at different times of the day, which suits a holiday spread across time zones. Photo prompts (“your plate, now”), caption contests and the cards from the bingo tool all work. We keep a longer list in games to play over text, and the Christmas games online page has the same ideas for the next holiday.

Gift Club is a Telegram mini app, and its games are not seasonal. They cost Telegram Stars per round and pay out in Stars and Telegram gifts, so they are for adults and not a substitute for the free party formats above, and a round can lose. The exception is Match-3, which runs on XP and costs a Spark a run. Sparks come from the daily streak. For two people, see Telegram games for two.
