Telegram Chat Games: What to Play in a Group Chat

Telegram chat games for a group come in four kinds that need nothing installed: emoji tournaments, quiz polls, high-score games that live on a message, and game bots you add to the group. A fifth kind is a Mini App game you share as a link. Here is how each one starts in a group, what it needs from the admin, and which fit a chat of five and which fit a chat of fifty.

What games can you play in a Telegram group chat?

The answer depends on whether everyone plays at once or each player takes a turn. Emoji tournaments and quizzes are live, high-score games are asynchronous, and bots can be either. Pick by the group, not by the game.

How do you run an emoji tournament in a group?

Telegram's six animated emoji give each player a number that nobody can choose, because the server generates it. That makes them fair referees in a group. The Telegram emoji games page has the ranges. Two formats scale past two players:

• Dart knockout. Every player sends one 🎯 per round. The lowest score is out each round until one player is left. Ties throw again.
• Bowling league. Everyone sends three 🎳, and the highest total wins the round. Keep a running table in a pinned message.

Count only throws in the order they were sent, and treat a deleted throw as a zero. For one-on-one rules see Telegram games for 2.

How do quiz polls work in a Telegram group?

A quiz poll is a multiple-choice question with one right answer, and it is the most natural group game Telegram has. Polls are created in groups or channels from the attach menu: choose Poll, write the question, add the options and switch on quiz mode. A right answer triggers confetti. Telegram also made its own Quiz Bot, which builds multi-question quizzes and shares them to a group. Because each member answers once, one person writing ten questions can run a game night.

Can you play high-score games with a whole group?

Yes. Telegram's Gaming Platform lets a bot post an HTML5 game into any chat, and the game keeps a high-score table for that chat. Type a game bot's username and a space in the message field, pick a game from the list and send it. Telegram's demo bot, @gamebot, shows the format. Nobody has to be online together, which suits a group spread across time zones.

How do you add a game bot to a Telegram group?

1. Open the bot's profile and use the option to add it to a group, or add it from the group's member list.
2. Start the game with the bot's command, for example from the list that appears when you type /.
3. Leave the bot as an ordinary member unless it needs more.

By default a bot in a group receives only commands, replies to its own messages and messages that mention it. A bot made an admin receives everything, so give a game bot admin rights only if it truly needs them. Our Telegram bot games guide has a checklist for telling a safe bot from a scam, and games to play over text has word games that need no bot.

Which Mini App games work in a group chat?

A Mini App game opens from a link, so a group can start it with one message. Gift Club's duels are two-seat games: post a challenge card in the chat and a friend taps Accept. PvP Dice Duel is the quickest, one roll each, and a free match is available when your friend would rather not stake Stars. In December, Secret Santa suits a group better than any duel: see Secret Santa in Telegram.
