Telegram mini apps are safe to open and risky to trust. Opening one gives it only the basics Telegram passes along, and it can't read your chats. The danger starts when you type a login code, connect a wallet or pay: mini apps are run by independent developers, and Telegram doesn't vet them before they go live.

What can a Telegram mini app see about you?
A mini app sees what Telegram hands it when it opens: your user ID, display name, username, language, whether you have Premium, and a link to your profile photo. Telegram's Mini Apps Terms add that your IP address is shared automatically, like on any website. Your phone number is not in that list: an app gets it only if you tap "share" on Telegram's own pop-up.
The same applies to location, messaging permission, downloads and sharing: each asks you through a native pop-up, and you can say no. Telegram's documentation describes no way for a mini app to read your chat history. Anything beyond the basics is what you choose to type into it, and the terms say the developer then handles it under its own rules.
Are Telegram mini apps vetted?
Not before launch. Kaspersky wrote in December 2025 that Telegram does almost no vetting before a mini app goes live and acts only after users complain. The Mini Apps Terms also say that the apps are run by independent providers and that disputes go to the provider. A researcher paper (arXiv, August 18, 2026) tested 37 mini apps and found 30 saved sensitive data on the device in a risky way. Five kept wallet recovery phrases without strong protection. Telegram's own Wallet had that flaw too and fixed it after Telegram added secure-storage tools. The lesson: a mini app can be honest and still careless, so keep big balances in a proper wallet app, not inside a game.
Which mini app scams actually happen?
- The login page inside the app. Kaspersky documented fake "gift giveaway" mini apps that copied a real platform, asked you to log in, and took over the account. Telegram already knows who you are, so a real mini app never needs your phone number or login code.
- The clone. The same name with one changed letter, often sent in a private message. Open apps from the official channel or the app's own website, not from a stranger.
- The seed phrase request. No honest app, bot or "support agent" needs your recovery phrase. See how a TON wallet works in Telegram.
- Free Stars and fake gifts. Stars can't be generated, which is why a "generator" is a phishing page. The full list is in Telegram Stars scams.
How do you check a mini app before you use it?
- Open it from a source you trust: the official bot named on the developer's website or channel. Compare the username letter by letter, and tap the verification badge if it shows one.
- Refuse any login. A phone number, code or password prompt inside a mini app is the one red flag Kaspersky repeats. Turn on two-step verification and a passkey in Settings, Privacy and Security.
- Look at how it takes money. Stars should go through Telegram's own payment sheet. A crypto payment should be a prompt in your wallet app, where you read the amount before you confirm. A custom card form or an unclear "sign" request is a stop sign.
- Never type a seed phrase. Anywhere, for anyone.
- Find the terms and the numbers. A real operator publishes terms and says how its random rewards work. If you can't find who runs it, treat it as unsafe.

Does Gift Club pass these checks?
Gift Club is a mini app too, so grade it the same way. It opens from its own bot and never asks for a login code or password. Stars are paid in Telegram's Stars sheet; Gram needs a TON wallet, which asks you to confirm in the wallet app. It never asks for a seed phrase. The terms are published, and its boxes and rounds are provably fair, so you can check a result afterwards. Rewards are real Telegram gifts. What does not change: paid rounds still cost more on average than they return, so spend only what you'd spend on fun. The free way in is Sparks, which the streak pays every 4 hours. Can a Telegram mini app steal my account?
Only if you hand it the way in. A phishing mini app asks you to log in again and then takes the account. Never give a mini app your login code or password, and turn on two-step verification and a passkey.
Can a mini app see my phone number?
Not by default. It gets your ID, name, username, language and Premium status. Your phone number reaches an app only if you accept Telegram's own phone-number pop-up.
Can a mini app read my messages?
Telegram's documentation describes no way for a mini app to read your chat history. Some launch routes give it details about the chat it was opened from, and it can send messages only through the permissions Telegram shows you.
Are payments in mini apps safe?
Paying with Stars through Telegram's own sheet keeps your card out of the app. Under the Mini Apps Terms, Telegram doesn't process other payments or hold funds, so a refund or dispute goes to the app's provider.
Is it safe to connect my wallet to a mini app?
Connecting only shares your public address. The risk is in what you then sign. Read each prompt in your wallet app, decline anything you don't understand, and never type a recovery phrase.
