A Telegram mini app is a web page that opens inside Telegram instead of in a browser, run by an independent developer on its own server. Telegram tells the page who you are when it opens, so there is no sign-up, and the app keeps your progress on the developer's side. That is why you can tap a link and be playing in seconds, with nothing to install.

What is a Telegram mini app?

It is a full web app that Telegram displays in its own window, built by a developer on top of a bot. Telegram's FAQ calls them full applications that run inside Telegram. They look like apps but nothing lands on your phone: close the window and it is gone. The developer's server does the real work, such as keeping your balance, running a game round or showing your gifts.

How do you open a mini app?

You open one from a bot's menu button, a button in a chat, a shared link, or the Mini App Store in the Apps tab of Telegram's search. Telegram's FAQ also lists full-screen mode and a home-screen shortcut, so a favorite app can start from an icon on your phone. Every route ends the same way: Telegram opens the developer's page and gives it a bundle of data about you.

How does a mini app know who you are without a login?

Telegram hands the page a signed package of details: your ID, name, username, language and Premium status. The developer's server checks the signature using a secret that only Telegram and that bot share, so a fake page can't pretend to be you. This is why a real mini app never asks for a login code: Telegram has already vouched for you. The details of what it sees are in are Telegram mini apps safe.

Where is your progress saved in a mini app?

On the developer's server, tied to your Telegram account. That is why your balance and collection follow you to a new phone. Telegram also gives developers small storage areas: a cloud one limited to 1,024 entries per bot per user, a device one of 5 MB, and a secure one on the phone's keychain. Clearing your Telegram cache does not erase what a developer keeps on its server.

How does paying work inside a mini app?

For Stars, the app asks Telegram to show its payment sheet, you confirm there, and the app is told whether it was paid, canceled or failed. For other payments, the Mini Apps Terms say Telegram doesn't process them or hold funds, so the provider's own processor handles it. For crypto, the app asks your wallet app, and you read the amount before you confirm. The checklist for spotting a bad payment prompt is in Telegram Stars scams.

What is the difference between a mini app and a normal app?

    • No install and no store. A normal app comes from an app store, which reviews it. A mini app starts from a link, and Telegram does not review it first.
    • No account of its own. Your Telegram identity is the account.
    • Less on your device. It runs like a web page, so it needs a connection.

What does this look like in Gift Club?

Gift Club is a mini app, so it works exactly this way: open the bot, and you are in, with no sign-up and no install. The streak pays free Sparks every 4 hours for Spark boxes and rounds, and paid play uses Stars or Gram, with provably fair results you can check afterwards. Prizes are real Telegram gifts. To play with Gram you connect a TON wallet, as play with Gram explains.

    FAQ

Do Telegram mini apps install on my phone?

No. They open in a window inside Telegram, and closing it ends the session. You can add a home-screen shortcut, but that only opens the web app again.

Do I need an account to use a mini app?

No. Telegram passes the app a signed identity, so your Telegram account is the account.

Do mini apps work without internet?

Generally no, because the developer's server does the work and keeps your data.

    Who makes mini apps?

Independent developers build them on the Telegram bot platform. Telegram provides the window and the payments sheet, but it is not the operator of the app.

    Are Telegram mini apps free?

Opening one is free. What you can do inside depends on the developer, and some sell items or subscriptions for Telegram Stars.
