Buy a Telegram Username: How Fragment Auctions Work

You buy a Telegram username on Fragment, Telegram's official marketplace. You pay in Gram from a crypto wallet, either at a fixed price or in an auction that runs for 7 days after the first bid. Fragment takes a 5% platform fee, ownership goes to your wallet, and you then assign the username to your Telegram profile, group or channel.

Basic vs collectible usernames: what's the difference?

Telegram has two kinds, according to its FAQ. As of 30 September 2026:

Usernames use a-z, 0-9 and underscores, and aren't case-sensitive. They're public: anyone can find you in global search and message you without your number, so Telegram says to skip one if that bothers you.

How do you buy a Telegram username on Fragment?

1. Set up a TON wallet. Fragment asks for a non-custodial wallet. Write down its recovery phrase: if you lose it, nobody can restore the funds or the usernames.
2. Get Gram into the wallet. Fragment pays in Grams ($GRAM), the coin formerly called Toncoin, and links to exchanges that sell it.
3. Connect the wallet and your Telegram account to fragment.com.
4. Search for the username and open its page. It's either for sale, in an auction, or "Taken".
5. Buy it or bid. Confirm the payment in your wallet.
6. Assign it. Under My Assets tap Assign to Telegram and pick your profile, group or channel.
7. Switch it on. Assigned usernames don't go live by themselves: enable them in Settings → Username (for a group or channel, Links order).

How do Fragment username auctions work?

• A 7-day clock starts at the first bid. A listed username can wait as long as needed; the first bid starts the auction.
• The highest bid wins. The bid that reaches the blockchain first counts. If yours didn't arrive before the end, or someone outbids you, your money comes back.
• Sellers set the rules. A minimum bid, and optionally a maximum price that ends the auction the moment someone pays it.
• Fragment takes 5%. Collectibles carry a 5% platform fee on each transaction, on top of the network's small transaction fee.
• Purchases are final. Fragment's terms say all purchases are non-refundable.

What if the username you want is taken?

It depends which kind it is. If it's a collectible, check whether it's for sale on Fragment. Telegram says it can't assign collectible usernames: only their owners can. If it's listed as Taken, Fragment lets you pay a small fee to notify the owner you're interested, with the Make an offer button.

If it's a basic username, Telegram says they're first come, first served. It can help acquire one that isn't a collectible if you hold the same username on at least two of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; contact @Username_bot to ask.

Are Fragment usernames worth buying?

For most people a free basic username is enough. A collectible is a purchase of a short, memorable name, and there's no published price list: the price is whatever the auction reaches. Treat it as buying something you want to use, not an investment, since nothing on Fragment's pages promises a resale price and every sale costs 5%.

What are anonymous Telegram numbers?

In late 2022 Telegram released a limited run of virtual numbers on Fragment, starting with +888. You can sign up for Telegram with one without a SIM: the login code shows on Fragment instead of arriving by SMS. The direct sale ended in 2022, so the only way to get one now is to buy it from another user. They work only on Telegram: you can't use them for calls, SMS or other services.

How do you avoid Telegram username scams?

• Use fragment.com only, typed yourself. Telegram's FAQ names Fragment as its collectibles marketplace.
• Ignore DMs offering a username swap. Blockchain payments can't be reversed and Fragment purchases are non-refundable.
• Never share your wallet's recovery phrase. Nobody at Telegram or Fragment needs it.
• Check the wallet holds the username. Fragment says the wallet you connect must be the one currently holding the collectible.
